Fantastic News Reader
I tried other news readers and I already find this one easier to use and navigate. the UI is very straighforward and easy to use and I really like the fact that you can easily select stories that you have open via the right side column that shows all open story windows. More importantly, it is very easy to organize your feeds. Another cool feature is that it has a listing for “Today” feeds. In other words, you select this feed and all you get is the news for that day, not yesterday or a week ago if you haven’t read the news for a while.
When it comes to updating your news feeds, I love the fact that it just simply updates the unread counter besides the icon on your OS X dock. For me, this is refreshing and a welcome sight as I was growing tired of a pop up showing up on the upper right hand side of the screen constantly when I was using another well known news reader.
on the options, for some it may feel undewhelming. However, for a news reader, I don’t think you need more options. However, IMO, the most important one is here, which is changing the font. It appears that you can add font collections as well for those who want to use a custom font, which is cool. Also, you have the option to disable loading pictures for those who want no distractions and there is a couple of layouts. There are options readily available on the top of the main UI as well, you can share stories, quickly change the font & font size, switch to dark or light mode, etc.
Again, I forgot another feature. If you like a story or want to read it on your iphone or your mac (if your on your iphone), simply click the bookmark article icon to save it.
I used feedly for a long time and i am glad that I don’t have to use it anymore. Sure, you have to sign up for an account but it feels much faster sycing your news feeds and read stories between your mac and the iPhone app, which I did purchase.
This is gets my vote for top news reader in my books.
